Sigma Tau Delta is the international honor society for students of English, recognizing excellence in the study of language, literature, and writing. Membership is by invitation through a local chapter and is open to students who have completed at least three semesters of college coursework, completed at least two upper-level English courses, achieved a minimum B average in English courses, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3. class. Students do NOT need to major in English to join.​

Members gain access to scholarships, conferences, publication in national journals, and leadership experience through local chapter activities. Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is a valuable credential that signals academic achievement, initiative, and sustained engagement with the study of English on a résumé or graduate school application.
